Year 6 takeover the heads

Today the 12th of November was the 1st of the Take over days, year sixs have been taking over the roles of staff in the school. One of the jobs was to take over the role of Mr Burrows and Mrs Li Koo, we had to go to a class that was being taken over by a year 6 and anwer these questions :

What is the learning objective?
What are the children doing?
Are they working hard?
Are they well behaved?
What are the adults doing?

Then we took a group of three out and asked them these questions:
What did you learn?
Was the work too hard/too easy /just right?
What did you enjoy about this lesson

We then took three books and saw if they had thees things:

presentation-is the work neat and well organised?
marking - has it been marked by the teacher?
AFL-Has there been the opportunity for self/peer evaluation?(eg traffic lights)
Quality- is the work good enough?(give examples of good work)

and then we had to type them up in a word document.

On Fiday the 12th November year 6 will be taking over the day. Some will be a teaher (mostly class 15) and other jobs such as Mr Burrows and Mrs Li koo,The office ladys,The ladys in the kitchen,The lunchtime supervisers and sally.

Expect  a year six to come into your class and teach you something ordinary or something wacky.

We had great fun making are resourses using smart-board,slide shows and lolly pop sticks. Lolly pop sticks are when the teacher writes the names of everyone in the class and picks out a stick that way  no one knows whos going to get picked and everyone has to think of the answer.

Because quite a lot of us are teaching here is a plan

We are your teachers the next 40 minutes I am Miss Turner and I am Miss Charles.

We would like to be respected and treated how you treat your teacher.

We are willing to give out 4 orange leaves ,4…..points, if you all work hard we will give you 2 class points.

Use IWF to teach no’s 1-5 by saying and repeating then pairs on IWF THEN use the games and intro 6.If time teach 6-10 then greetings on IWF.Tell them what they are doing whilst child hands out books. 20ish mins to do work. Take out cards when drawn.

Book Week!

This week has been book week.We have been looking at poems as it was national poem day on Thursday. We had a peotry competition and the winners read their poems out in assembly.
The book fair has come to the school with books to swap and buy from the actual book fair.

Chill out zone

After reading the feedback from the questionnaires the school council voted for the most popular answers, they decided on a outside chill out zone as their first priority.

The first idea was a house but here was what was wrong with it :
Queues
Angry people
Too small

The second idea was a tent but as you guessed these are the things that went wrong with it:
Barracades
Not big enough
Not Waterproof

And the last idea was the courtyard but these are the things that are good about it:
Big
Lots of space
Cover
Seating and tables
Quiet
Already made

So we settled on the courtyard .We'll need to buy some outdoor cushions and design some brightly coloured banners. This idea was thought by chair and vice chair after a council meeting.

lego mindstorm (featuring Jeff & Cheryl.)

Last week we made a lego robot called Jeff and the robot Cheryl is being made so far more robots will be made over the next few weeks here's a little clip of Cheryl moving.

One of Jeff's favourite things to do was killing Bernard the crash test lego man.
Cheryl's best friend is WILL.I.AM ( I expect you can see where this is going.)
Jeff enjoys playing with his fav blue ball to play footy and hockey but sadly Jeff is dead

Chinese Summer School 2010 @ Frensham Heights

A group of us Year 5s (now Year 6s!) were lucky enough to be picked to go to a Chinese Summer School for a week during the summer holidays. Only 50 children across the UK were chosen to go and Ladygrove were lucky enough to send 9 children to Frensham Heights thanks to the British Council and HSBC funding. Frensham Heights is a posh girls boarding school in Surrey with loads of amazing facilities like a swimming pool, tennis courts, massive grounds, a performance theatre, a gym which we got to use.

Every morning we woke up early to have a massive breakfast before we started our morning exercise all together in the ballroom.  Then we did our language lessons with specialised Chinese teachers.  We learnt things like greetings, numbers, pets, food, colours and lots more through songs, games, conversations and repetition.  It was enjoyable and not too tiring although sometimes it was hard to get up in the mornings!

At the end of the week we got to show off our Chinese language skills in a performance to our parents and families in the fabulous school theatre.
