Year 5 Trip to Abingdon Museum

On Wednesday 1st October Class 13 went to Abingdon Museum to learn about the Ancient Greeks. There were four groups and when we got there we got into two groups. Two groups went upstairs and the others went down stairs.

Downstairs the activity was cooking. There were pots of different Greek food and we tried to guess what foods were in the pots. There was barley, dried dates, dried rasins, lentils, garlic and also figs. The figs smelt like rotten cabbage, YUCK! Next made some Greek pudding. The ingredients were nuts, honey, sesame seeds, eggs and flour. We mixed it together and baked them in the oven. When they were cool we got to eat them. They tasted lovely!

Meanwhile upstairs the other group were making masks. They all looked really funny! The group had to act out a famous Greek play. The play was about birds, so the masks were decorated with colourful feathers.

At lunch time we ate our lunch in the basement YUM!! We also got to try the Greek cakes that we made. Most people didnt like them but I loved them! Afterwards we wanted to go to the park but it was raining so we played games in the courtyard.

In the afternoon, there were two more activities. Downstairs we learned about Greek music and dance. We looked at pictures of Ancient Greek instruments and then we got to dance to Greek music. It was fun.
Upstairs we looked at and touched Ancient Greek pottery.

Everyone enjoyed the trip and had a great time!

The Netball champions!

The netball team in Ladygrove park primary school have done very well in the matches this year. We have played 5 games and we have won 3. Unfortunatly we lost against Hagbourne and Blewbury. The Hagbourne score being 7-4 to them, and the Blewbury score being 5-1 to them.

But luckily we have won against South Morten, Fir Tree and Cholsey. The South Morten score was 10 -1 to us, the Fir Tree score was 5-1 to us and the Cholsey score was 15 nil. But all the players from Cholsey who were playing in the match were either in year 4 or year 5. Also most of them had never played before so we all felt rather bad when we found that out.

On Saturday 1st of March we are playing in the Manor tournament against all different around Didcot. We are all very excited about this and are all hoping for the best!!

The sun in our school!

Two people, called jo & chris, came to our school from culham science center. They brought an inflateable dome (Shown in picture above) with a projector shining in the inside. We watched a documentry about the sun on the projector (we had to lie down because it was shining on the cieling). It felt like we were there! It was about how the sun made energy by fusing atoms together. Then we played a game to show how atoms act by following one person and running away from another. Then we watched a second film about how thay were going to make a mini sun. It was all explained in afun and interesting way. They also explaned about the other planets and how stars are formed. It was really fun and interesting! :)
